Having bought a new Smartphone, means that now I have one spare, which is quite powerful with an 8 core 1.7 GHz Cortex-A7 CPU and 2 GB of RAM and can handle some projects I would like to start with.
The problem was that the MIUI it was running was an Android 4.4.2 which is old an unfortunately incompatible with Termux.
Termux is a terminal emulator and Linux environment app for Android but it requires Android version >5.
The first problem was that I couldn’t go into the Recovery menu. By pressing Volume Up + Power at boot it got me into a menu, which was in Chinese.
The solution was to restart to the recovery menu from within the phone. In this thread of MIUI’s forums it’s shown how it’s done.
After that I followed the instructions of Lollicraft and yes! I managed to install it.
And everything seems to work fine by now. I have all the features of Android 5.1 plus the ones from Lollicraft.
Lollicraft is a Cyanogen Mod port and includes those features too.
For more information about Lollicraft check it’s thread in XDA Developers.
I didn’t install Google Apps (gapps) though because I don’t need them and also I want the installation to be as minimal as possible.
Unfortunately my phone died after using it for a year with F-Droid and open source apps. It won’t boot any more. I think its flash memory died.
